How to repel snakes and other reptiles

SNAKES

One of the most misunderstood animals. They are considered beneficial, for humans and animals. They mainly consume insects and also rodents. A snake throughout its life will eat up to 1,000 rodents. Meeting a human, it will try to move away attacking only when it feels it is in danger.

In Greece, only 5 species of viper have a dangerous poison for man. After bitten, we need to go to the hospital within hours. Other species with poison, though not dangerous, are Cat snake and Montpellier snake.

Snakes hibernate and become active from March to October.

Many times in the countryside or even in a semi-natural environment, we get unwanted “visits” of snakes, causing terror to the inhabitants. In order to reduce or eliminate the presence of snakes, we can do the following:

Clear the outer perimeter of excess vegetation as well as the interior of our space
Control rodents
Remove heaps of stones or other materials that could make nests
Protect the area with repellents

LIZARD – HOUSE GECKOS

Lizard (and snake) repellent with preventative and suppressive action. They can take many forms:

– Liquid, so it can be sprayed at walls and smooth surfaces

– Grain, so it can be scattered in porous surfaces like soil, where liquid repellents don t work

– Sound and vibration devises which repel snakes and lizard through an environmentally friendly way
